A friend and myself have been meaning to tie dye since we were 16yrs old and now that we are almost 21 we thought it was time to try it out once and for all. I think our shirts turned out quite well and I'm so happy that we managed to get it right the first time. It really is very easy.
What you will need:
1. White tee (or other white clothing item of your choice)
2. Fabric dye (Red, Yellow & Blue)
3. Rubber bands
4. Plastic or rubber gloves
5. A bucket of water
start off by soaking your white shirts in a bucket of water.
pinch and twist the centre in a spiral motion
continue until the whole shirt is done
place 3 or more rubber bands to make equal sections (more sections means more colours)
using the dye colour each section front and back.
(try not to use too much dye in the folds)
you can use any or as many colours you heart desires.
just remember:
red+blue= purple
blue+yellow= green
yellow+red= orange
make sure you wear gloves.
once your done leave it to dry for 24 hours, then rinse until water runs clear.
and your done!
experiment with different fabrics like we have
i love that the dye is brighter on thick cotton and faded/pastel on polyester.
Good luck!
